How long will a solar system last?
All our solar power systems are comprised of products (panels, inverters, racking) that have manufacturer’s warranties of 25 years. This guarantees all hardware is correctly functioning and producing energy at a specified rate. We also take care to only use top quality products that make sure your investment lasts well over the 25-year warranted period.
How much maintenance do solar panels need?
Solar power systems generally require very little maintenance. Spray them down with a hose at ground level every couple of months to remove any debris or dust that may have gathered on the panels over time. In the rare case that an issue develops, it can be quickly diagnosed with the included monitoring technology accessed through your computer or smart phone. With zero moving parts, solar technology Is incredibly reliable.
How will solar effect my property value?
Solar increases the value of your property. The increase will be significant and can range from 80% to over 100% of the system’s value. When compared to a typical kitchen renovation that only adds 40% to 50% of its value, solar is a great deal. This also allows solar owners to “cash out” of their investment if they decide to sell their home, while still enjoying all the energy savings in the meantime.
What happens if I move?
Solar increases the value of your property. This added value is significant compared to the price of the system and allows you to effectively “cash out” of your investment should you decide to move. The transition to a new owner of a home is seamless from a technical standpoint.
Do I need batteries with a solar system?
Batteries are not essential for any solar system that can connect to the grid. Off-grid applications do require battery banks, but this should only be implemented on a need-to-use basis. Net-metering provides a cost-effective alternative to batteries for anyone who can connect to the grid. Feed into the grid when the sun is shining and use the equivalent amount of energy from the grid whenever it’s needed!
What is net-Metering?
The Net-Metering program allows solar producers to generate more energy than they need in a day, week, or month and feed that excess energy into the grid. This will roll back your meter and build a credit with the electrical utility. When you need energy (at night or in the winter months for example) you can draw from your credit and reclaim the energy you produced! There are a variety of benefits to this localized generation strategy that make BC more resilient moving forward.
Can Solar energy systems be financed?
Yes, there are many financing options available for you to choose from. On average, the cost of a solar system will add a small amount per month to a standard mortgage agreement. Adapt Energy does not directly finance systems, but a conversation with your bank or mortgage provider will add valuable insight into this investment option. We are always happy to provide a recommendation upon request!
How do I insure the solar panels on my home?
Solar energy systems are generally covered under your existing home insurance, without the need for an add-on or rider. With the large amount of solar installations already installed, insurance companies have enough data to reliably insure a system without taking on additional risk. However, insurance companies do vary and a call with your insurer to confirm your system will be covered is recommended.
Is solar technology built for Canada?
Yes! Adapt Energy only offers tried and tested equipment that can withstand all elements of a Canadian winter, often sourced from Canada’s solar manufacturing industry. Years of testing, certification, and real-world experience allows the technology we offer to be warranted for 25 years.
What companies and countries do Your solar panels come from?
We offer Canadian made products whenever possible including: panels, racking, vehicle chargers and more. Quality is always at the forefront of our selection process when looking within Canada or around the world for solutions that will last a lifetime. See our products page for a list and links to our most trusted brands!
How does snow effect solar panels?
Snow will slide off the slick surface of the panels. Solar installations are almost always installed at an angle, even on a flat roof. The steeper this angle or slope, the easier it is for snow to slide off the surface. In addition, panels are elevated from the roof surface or singles, allowing snow that falls above to freely flow beneath the solar system.
How do the seasons effect solar panels?
Clear summer days are the most productive for solar energy. The closer to the north and south poles a location is, the more pronounced the difference in production will be between the summer and winter months. In the Okanagan, winter electricity production is around 20% of the best summer production. We include an accurate estimate of month to month production with every system design and quote.
How do clouds effect solar energy production?
Solar still works on cloudy days, just not as well! Energy production of 10 – 30% can still be achieved through cloudy days, depending on the type of clouds present. Rain will also help clean the panels and maximize output on clear days.
How long does it take to get a solar system connected?
For residential properties, it can take anywhere from 2 to 5 days, while large commercial jobs can take anywhere from 1 week to 1 month depending on the structure, layout, and complexity.
How are the solar panels attached to the roof?
The panels sit atop metal rails that are securely bolted to the rafters of a roof through L-brackets. This is a thoroughly tested design which raises the panels from the surface of the roof while solidly securing the system to the most structurally sound roof components. Visuals on this system can be found through our primary racking manufacture's website: Kinetic Solar.
Can solar panels cause leaks in our roof?
Each connection on the roof surface is supported by an advanced flashing system that is designed specifically for the job. These flashing kits are developed in Canada and work specifically with the racking system to keep leaks out by creating a water and snow proof seal.
What are the environmental benefits to Solar?
Solar will help reduce your carbon footprint. It is also a clean alternative to coal, natural gas, and all forms of fossil fuel based energy generation. By switching to solar, you contribute to less pollution in our atmosphere, which means that the air we breathe is cleaner and our environment is more stable. What is solar tracking technology?
Solar tracking refers to technology that will shift the angle of solar panels to track the sun across the sky or through the seasons. The two types of tracking technology are automatic (no user input) and manual. Manual systems change by the seasons (higher angle in the winter, less in the summer) and automatic change by the hour or minute.
is solar Tracking technology Beneficial?
In general, tracking systems increase the output of solar panels a small amount and are limited to ground mounted systems. However, these technologies introduce the risk of breakdown into solar systems through the introduction of moving parts, especially in the automatic case. Our general philosophy on tracking technology is the increased risks of breakdown do not outweigh the minor benefits in production.
